In preparation for the upcoming Reunification Drill at SMS on Monday, September 9, and for routine communication from the school district during the school year, parents should make sure they have done the following things:
Annual Update - Make sure that contact information including phone number, email, and address have been updated for everyone in your student’s emergency contact list in Infinite Campus (IC). This is key information the district needs to be able to communicate in the case of an emergency.
In the event of Reunification students will ONLY be released to an adult listed on the student’s emergency contact list in IC. The adult must present a valid ID to confirm their identity before a student is released.
ALL parents should have someone on their emergency contact list who doesn’t work for the school district or as an emergency responder. In a true emergency, they will often be focused on the care of our school community.
This pdf provides details on how to update that information through the Annual Update process.
Salida School District, CO app from Apptegy - Download the NEW app for Salida School District with the district’s “Purple Down S” to receive notifications from the district and your student’s school. The old app, featuring the SHS Spartan Head logo, will no longer be available and should be uninstalled from your device.

Turn on Notifications for the schools you want to get information from.
Open the App in your device
Select Menu on the bottom right hand corner
Select the Settings icon in the lower right corner
Select Notification Preferences
Select Groups
Check the boxes for the school(s) you want notifications from. Note that there is a separate option for Safety Drills for each school.
All schools must conduct two drills each month. One is a state mandated evacuation drill coordinated with the Salida Fire Department, and one is an SRP drill coordinated with the Salida Police Department.
Reunification drills will be sent through the school’s main notification system as their impact is more significant and we want to make sure families have been notified of release of students not participating, and when it is time for participating parents to come pick up their student(s).
Reunification Drills are Scheduled For:
Longfellow Elementary School 8/28 – Kindergarten (Completed in ~45 minutes from time App message was sent)
Salida Middle School 9/9* – 5th graders (*This date has been changed)
The Crest Academy 9/12 – 5th graders
Horizons Exploratory Academy 9/19 – 9th graders
Salida High School 9/25 – 9th graders
Salida Early Childhood Center (SECC) will not have a reunification drill, as they practice direct release to parents/guardians at the end of every school day.
