Salida Middle School Exterior Sign

Dear Salida Middle School students and parents;

I am very excited to welcome you all to the 2024-25 school year at Salida Middle School. My name is Michelle Saab and I am honored to return as your principal for my third year.

I am very excited and energized about this new school year and committed to working with you and our incredible staff to make this a really great school year. In addition to all of our awesome programming that we have had, I am really looking forward to our new enrichment programming, student choice in some classes and a full time Spanish program!

I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable summer and that you are as excited as I am about the start of the school year. We have great things in store for every student here this year.

Our students start their day in homeroom/crew. Your child’s homeroom teacher should be a reliable and informative teacher that can serve as a go to staff member for both you and your child.

The Salida School District has moved to a paperless registration system. In previous years, a packet of paper documents would be sent to families and need to be filled out and returned to the school before the start of each school year.  All documents can now be found through your Parent Portal registration link. Please read the directions carefully in order to register your child.

Our office staff will be available all day on August 6th from 8am-4pm in the SMS front office for in person registration if you are not able to access online registration.

Some important dates and information:

  • In person registration: August 6, 8am- 4pm in the SMS Office

  • Sports Physical Night: August 6, 6-8:00 pm at the SMS Commons

  • Pancake Breakfast Welcome for incoming 5th graders and their parents, Friday August 9th 9-10am: Meet staff and enjoy breakfast with us.

  • All students will attend school MONDAY AUGUST 12 (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders). Students will enter the building through their grade level doors by their classroom.  Doors will open at 7:45 for breakfast (enter through The Commons doors)  and class begins at 8:00 each day. School is dismissed at 4:00 PM. Breakfast and lunch in our cafeteria is free to all students.

  • Back to School Night will be held on August 27 from 5:15-6:30. 6th-8th grade students and their parents/guardians  will receive locker assignments that evening.

  • SMS School Supply List for all grades can be found on teacherlists.com you will just have to put our zip code in and all of our grade levels are posted under Salida Middle School.

  • We will send information out on Parent Conferences in the coming weeks.

  • Schedules are already posted to IC Parent Portal. We will also have Crew classes posted on the 1st day so all students will know where to begin their day and get their schedules.

Being on time is always important, especially during these first days of school. Students who arrive late will  need to enter the building through the front main door.

As you know, the first few days of school are crucial for goal and expectation setting in classrooms as well as for  orientation and relationship building between all students and staff. We are all excited to get to know and  support your students and ask that you make every effort to have them to school on time every day.

I realize having a middle-school-aged child can be a challenge. Middle school can be harder on parents than it  is on kids. Additionally, middle school is a time of great change, independence as well as physical and  emotional growth. Please know that everyone here at SMS is here to support your child and family. Feel free to reach out to any of us if and when a time arises when you need  assistance/support, have questions, or need clarification about anything.

Thanks for being a part of the Salida Middle School Family, and welcome.

Sincerely,
Michelle Saab
